People often have this idea that writers just sit on their sofa, or in front of their desk, writing, drinking booze and fooling around on the internet claiming writers block.
But a writer's life is more than that. A lot more, especially if you have a day job beside writing to help pay the bills. Life for a writer isn't all fun and games.
For a writer who makes a living from writing, it's a hard job. Especially if you're an indie writer. Some of the people I know publish full length novels every 3 months. That's around 80 - 100 K words, written, edited and published every three months. They pull 12+ hour days working their asses off. Because it's not just writing. It's writing, editing, online marketing, covers, blurbs, blogs, facebook, and trying to navigate the constantly changing world of Indie publishing.
On top of all the writing related jobs, there's the normal everyday stuff to do too.
For me that means cleaning, shopping, cooking, doing the laundry, taking care of the kids, school meetings, play dates, sick days.
And now I'm sure some people are thinking 'But if you aren't making a living from it, why do it?'
The simple answer is that there is no simple answer. I write because I love it. Because I can't stop. The ideas wont go away. I also write because yes, I hope to one day actually make a living from it. I write because I love telling my stories, and because I think my stories are worth sharing.
And I write because even with everything else, writing is worth it.
Have a great day
A writer's life
This is the blog where a slightly crazy author writes rambling posts about everything and nothing. There's posts about my books, writing and social media. Posts about cooking and reviews. And there's posts about life.
Please notice: I do not earn money on this blog. I do not have affiliated links, and I'm not paid by any product I might mention on this blog. I'm just an artist who loves to blog. If you want to support me, buying one of my books would warm my heart. If they aren't to your taste, then support another indie artist instead.
We could all need your help.
Thank you <3
