I've been sick for a few days, so I thought it would be nice to talk about my favorite five self-care activities. Self-care is such an important thing to do, but people often forget to, or even feel bad when doing them.
No. 1 - Audiobooks.
I love reading, and often take time to enjoy a book. But on the days where I really need self care, audiobooks are my go to thing. I'll light a few candles, lie on the sofa, close my eyes, and just listen to the audiobook for half an hour. It's like taking a nap but without the pillow creases on your face.
No. 2 - Facemask and nailpolish
Sometimes when feeling a bit down, I do a home spa. I do a cozy face mask (my favorite is this vanilla fudge mask my local store sometimes sells. it's starts heating up when you apply it so your face goes all relaxed) and while the facemask works, i do my nails. Put on some spa/relax music and drink a cup of coffee, and I feel in heaven.
No. 3 - card games
We all got smart phones, and they come with about a million free games. But nothing is quite as relaxing as putting your phone away and pull out an old set of playing cards. I love playing patience/klondike (the name, I'm told, depends on where you live. Here it's called 7 kabale) and a few rounds of it, always makes my brain relax a bit.
No. 4 - Coffee and nothing
Sometimes what we truly need is to do nothing. So I light a few candles, make a nice cup of coffee (with vanilla of course) and just exist. I sit on the couch or by a window and let life pass by without trying to follow. It's amazing what 20-30 min of doing nothing can do for you.
No. 5 - Go for a walk with no purpose
This is probably my favorite of them all, but because of my ankle, my walks have been limited a lot the last year. Just put on your shoes (and what ever else you might need for the weather) and go for a walk. Look at the scenery. Enjoy the funny little things you might never have noticed before. I live in a smaller town, and I still sometimes end up in a street I've never been on before because we humans are such creatures of habits. And it's so good for you to get outside. the air, the moving and just letting yourself watch and explore.
Self-care doesn't have to mean taking 30 min out of your day. The little things count as much as the big things. Light candles while eating dinner/working at the computer/watching a movie. Buy those flowers for yourself if they make you happy every time you see them. Put on an audiobook while vacuuming. Use those favorite plates every day. Make yourself feel good, and don't wait until you think you've "earned it" by finishing some task.
That's my favorite top five and a little bonus :)
What's your favorite self-care activity?
A writer's life
This is the blog where a slightly crazy author writes rambling posts about everything and nothing. There's posts about my books, writing and social media. Posts about cooking and reviews. And there's posts about life.
Please notice: I do not earn money on this blog. I do not have affiliated links, and I'm not paid by any product I might mention on this blog. I'm just an artist who loves to blog. If you want to support me, buying one of my books would warm my heart. If they aren't to your taste, then support another indie artist instead.
We could all need your help.
Thank you <3
